Melos
Melos grew up in the mountains around the Kamor pass, spending his childhood herding sheep and goats with the occasional trip to the city of Brennus to buy essentials and sell animals. On one of these trips he watched the Myrmidons set off on a punitive expedition against a barbarian invasion, and decided that the life of a soldier was better than that of a shepherd.
His strength, combined with the agility he developed scrambling up rocks in his youth, meant he was a valuable asset to the Myrmidons, and he rose to the rank of sergeant. For twelve years he fought in the battles against the barbarians, until the defeat of the Veracian field army and the destruction of the city. Melos, taking command of the few remaining Myrmidons, followed Caunen and his Army of the North in their campaigns and helped to return Sertorius V to the throne of Samnium.
Melos then helped to reform the Myrmidons with Samnite volunteers, and led them in the war that restored the Veracian kingdom. He was appointed sergeant-major of the regiment, and served with it until his death at the age of sixty-three.
Loyal, dependable and a terror in battle, Melos followed orders diligently. He led the Myrmidons by example, fighting in the front ranks, and his presence in the line of battle inspired terror in the enemy and confidence in his fellows.
